Saving the day with the PJ Masks {WIN!}

PJ Masks Hamper R2000.00

Sponsored

If like me, you live with serious PJ Mask fans, you will be familiar with the phrases “Into the night to save the day” “Super Cat Speed”  “Super Owl wings” and “Super Lizard Grip” and know the in’s and out’s of how these super hero’s work together to defeat the villians Romeo, Luna Girl and Night Ninja!

If you don’t know who the PJ Masks are, what rock have you been living under? Seriously they have to be THE cutest toddler super hero’s ever!  By day they are Connor (Catboy), Amaya (Owelette) and Greg (Gekko) but by night they transform into hero’s who solve challenges and literally “save the day”.  Villains are silly and always leave clues for our hero’s who solve the problem that they have caused and make everything great for the next day at school again.  Don’t tell anyone but I have quite the soft spot for the villians – all of them have their own insecurities and I love that as part of the solution more often than not the PJ Masks befriend them to solve the challenges they find themselves facing.

Dual pack figures

I know many moms have been asking when the PJ Masks toys will be hitting South African shores and the GREAT news is THEY ARE HERE!

The team at Just Fun Kidz have brought in the most amazing ranges – masks, figurines, cuddly plushes, deluxe vehicles, bath squirters… you name it they probably have it!  My kids were super lucky to be sent  hamper of PJ Masks toys to review – the hamper included 2 x Basic vehicles which each came with their respective PJ Mask articulated figurine, 1 x Deluxe Vehicle which repeats key phrases from the TV show and has lights and sounds features, as well as the appropriate articulated hero and 3 x Dual Figure packs which each contained 2 x articulated figurines – this meant we got all 6 characters and I swear my kids were in heaven!

Basic vehicle all 3

I loved that the vehicles all allowed space for all the hero’s to be seated just like they would be in the TV show.  They are tough and durable and the toys have been played with non stop in my home and are still looking brand new.  I am loving hearing the new story lines that my kids are coming up with as well.  I love that their imaginations are being stimulated and that they are thinking of new things for the villains to get up to so they can save the day.

Deluxe Vehcile

Speaking of story lines, I teamed up with Sharon from the Blessed Barrenness and Maz from Caffeine and Fairydust on a very cool Facebook live video, if you didn’t tune in live head on over there to see exactly what you missed!

NOW!!

#DadsWhoPlayBarbie Campaign hits right in the heart {Win!}

When we found out that we were expecting a little girl, we were both blown away.  The Young family have very few girls in their family tree and we were, well, tickled pink to find out that we would be adding girl number 5 to the Young family.  Then we started to worry, I mean what did any of us know about raising girls?  Yes I am a girl and my niece is a girl but on the Young side of the family those who would be most involved with our kids only had boy experience.

That said I was so grateful that God had answered the desires of my heart and to see Cliff so happy about having a daughter to dote on really made my heart sing.

We have both had to learn things about being parents to a daughter but what I love most is how my man has stretched his daddy legs to being the best girl dad ever.  He lets Gemma paint his nails, do his make up, dresses her in her girliest outfits when I’m not around and loves to play girly games with her.

dadswhoplaybarbie

I love seeing them interact together in “traditionally’ girly ways.  I think that’s why Barbie has definitely hit the mark with me (and I’m sure many other girl parents) with their newest #DadsWhoPlayBarbie campaign.  I love it!  I mean who wouldn’t have their hearts melted watching this ad?

I think part of the reason I love this campaign so much is, I can see my own family echoed in the scenes playing out in front of me.

I know I am not the only woman out there who gets mushy heart eyes when they see their man playing Barbie with their daughter, and the folks at Mattel want to see your images (like mine above).

They are giving away a Barbie hamper valued at R1552.00 to one lucky #DadsWhoPlayBarbie entrant via my blog.

The Great Train Race!

thomasCOMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED AND OUR LUCKY WINNER WAS CASSEY TOI!  CONGRATS CASS!

Ever since Kade was a baby he has absolutely loved trains and his obsession with Thomas started young.  We had all the track sets and our collection of trains had included Thomas (about 4 of him), Percy, Emily, Diesel and even Harold the helicopter!

We were recently invited to attend the premier of the Thomas and Friends The Great Train Race movie and we couldn’t have been more delighted to attend the event.  We got to the event slightly late cos Gems woke from her nap later than expected and boy was it in full swing – face painting, balloon animals and the raddest Thomas play area ever.

The movie itself is super cute.  Thomas and his friends have all been jazzed up and brought into the 21st century and who knew they could sing so well?  Fans of the tv series will totally get what I’m saying, when I say that for the first time I actually found myself liking the fat controller ( he always comes across as rather brusque and unlikable in the series… just me?)  I loved that the movie really focused on theme’s of “being true to yourself” and “do what you do best” but honestly the bit that I loved most (watch out my inner feminist is about to rear her head) was that the pretty FEMALE engine entered the same contest that the hard-working MALE engines traditionally would have : that being the shunting contest.   I also loved that it wasn’t only Emily that was entered into the best looking contest (the trains got some brilliant paint make overs) but one of the other male engines too (his name escapes me right now).  Way to go Thomas and Friends for bending gender bias!

The movie is also only 61 minutes long so even our Hurricane sat riveted the whole movie long.  It is showing at Ster Kinekor Theatres until this Sunday so if you want a really nice family afternoon out (and a way to beat the heat wave in Jozi at the moment), I would recommend going to see it.

Once again the kids were spoilt rotten with the most awesome goody bags at the end of the event – we have to bath every night with our Thomas face cloths, and the puzzles and megablock toys have entertained them no end.

All in all we had a divine afternoon with Thomas and his friends.

I know that many of you must be Thomas fans and I have a fabulous mystery Thomas & Friends hamper valued at R300.00 up for grabs!

This hamper consists of two Thomas toys that are aimed at kids 18 months and older – and the best part is you CANNOT get them in South Africa – so if you are the lucky winner your Thomas fan will be THE ONLY kid with these in the country – how COOL is that?

Breakfast for Better Days

I cannot believe that I am going back to work in just under a weeks’ time! It is crazy how quickly time has flown and I am both dreading it and looking forward to it. I don’t know about you but I simply cannot function a full day without eating a good breakfast. It definitely helps me kick my day off well and keeps me going both physically and mentally. I also know that as a mom the one thing that is really important to me is that Kade has a good breakfast before he goes to school. He loves his cereal and yoghurt in the morning!

When I heard from Kelloggs that 1 in 5 of our children go to school with an empty tummy I was saddened. I know how hungry Kade is when he wakes up and I cannot imagine him going to school hungry. The good news is that Kelloggs has committed to 5 million servings of breakfast to learners via their Breakfast for Better Days initiative.

Kelloggs will be donating more than R10 million in cereal and milk to FoodBank who will in turn distribute this to needy schools across South Africa in 2014. That means that 25,000 children will have a breakfast every school day. I bet you’re wondering how you can help?

Firstly you can purchase specially marked packs of Kellogg’s products when you do your monthly cereal shop! Not only will you be feeding your kids and family good wholesome breakfast but you will also be contributing towards filling the tummy of a hungry child. What I love about this initiative is that Kellogg’s have committed to feeding these children whether they sell hundreds of boxes of cereal or if they sell none. Go Kelloggs!!  Secondly you can help spread the word! Tell your friends and family to buy Kellogg’s cereals.

What’s more is that the folks at Kelloggs have also given me an amazing one month breakfast hamper to give away to a lucky reader…

Kelloggs Giveaway

To stand a chance to win please leave a comment below explaining how important you think a good breakfast is. For every Facebook like and Tweet about this competition (use hashtags #KelloggsBFBD and #PowerOfBreakfast and don’t forget to tag @KelloggsZA and @theclam in the tweet), you will get an additional entry.

All entries will be put into a Kellogg’s box and Kade will draw the winner. Winner will be announced on Monday 05th May 2014.
(Please note that should you win, Kellogg’s have advised your prize can take up to 3 weeks to be delivered.)
