Late, late Meme…

Laura tagged me in this meme about a week or so ago – I am sooooo behind so don’t think I’ll find 11 people to tag but I’ll tag however many I can ok?  Ok…

The rules

  • Post 11 things about yourself
  • Answer the questions given
  • Set 11 new questions
  • Tag 11 people

11 Things about me:

  1. I have to stack the dishwasher – I am VERY particular about how it’s stacked and if it’s done by someone else I normally end up restacking it to maximise the space utilized inside it….
  2. I have a shocking habit of shortening people’s names, I have always done it and just cannot help myself from doing it… That’s why I named my son a name that you can’t really shorten, that said I know he’ll end up with some form of nickname…
  3. I am quite adventurous with my hair (to a point) I have had my hair practically every colour it can be – including that VIBRANT red and PLUM colour – I love experimenting with my hair
  4. I am loving my new job at the moment – there is a LOT to learn but I just know it’s going to challenge me in ways I need to be challenged mentally
  5. My shoe broke this morning!  So now I am walking like hop a long and looking very weird.
  6. I love singing in my car – I put the radio/cd on FULL BLAST and sing my little heart out… The radio/cd has to be on FULL BLAST cos my singing is baaaaaad, I have to drown out my own voice…
  7. I don’t know why but Kade seems to like my singing – that’s true love right there!
  8. I constantly have a post nasal drip – it is SO annoying but nothing I take ever drys it up completely
  9. I have recently had a chip in my front tooth fixed and now the one is a bit thicker than the other one – it is fa-reaking me out.  I really hope it evens out soon!
  10. I am getting these shooting pains in my left hand – feels a bit like carpal tunnel syndrome but isn’t that a pregnancy related problem?  Does anyone know if you can get carpal tunnel when not pregnant?
  11. I am getting old – clearly!  Cos my last few points are all complaining about body issues/ails… *sigh*

The questions I need to answer are as follows:

1. Whose wardrobe would you like to have a wander through?   Hmmmm.  This is a tough one – maybe Gwen Stefani cos her style is so quirky & fresh…

2. Are your kitchen cupboards organised?  They used to be, but since Kade has come along I need to reorganise them – having breakables on the lower shelves is NOT a good idea right now especially since he’s on the move and has figured out he can get into the cupboards and drawers

3. You have a tank full of petrol and a day to yourself – where do you go?  To Durban – to visit my buddies and my family there :)

4. What would you cook for dinner tonight if all the ingredients were in your fridge when you go home?  Prawn curry – hmmmmm.

5. What are you most grateful for today?  My little boy, considering that at a time in my life I thought I’d never have a child, he is what I am most grateful for.

6. What can’t you forgive?  I can forgive pretty much anything actually…but I do think that the one thing I would not be able to forgive is if someone hurt my child.

7. Would you consider being part of a reality TV show?  Yes, Come Dine with Me…

8. Favourite pizza topping?  Anything BUT seafood

9. 3 of your favourite things?  Red Wine, Biltong and my family

10. Are you brave?  Yes in certain instances I am.  I am calm under pressure and I think that equates to being brave…

11. Can you kill a spider?  Without any hestition!

And my questions are:

  1. What is your favourite thing to eat?
  2. Contacts or Spectacles?
  3. What is the best thing that has ever happened to you?
  4. What was your favourite subject at school?
  5. What infuriates you the most in life?
  6. Where would you go on holiday if you had no money constraints?
  7. What is your favourite childhood memory?
  8. How long have you been blogging and why did you start blogging?
  9. Do you have a healthy body image?
  10. Do you wear lipstick?
  11. Which do you prefer – summer or winter?

I just realised…

I borrowed this from Last American Girl standing.

I just realised… that I should have had more to eat for breakfast, my stomache is eating itself!

I just realised that my chest-size… is perfect for my body.

I just realised that my job… while awesome is not the be end to end all.

I just realised that when I’m driving…  I must look really odd to everyone else the way I sing along and dance to the music.

I just realised that I need… to continue let go and let God.

I just realised that realize that I have lost… nothing and gained everything.

I just realised that I hate it when… people read over my shoulder.

I just realised that if I’m drunk… I’m either a lot of fun or a crying mess.

I just realised that money…  comes and goes, sometimes you have it sometimes you don’t.

I just realised that certain people… sometimes choose incorrectly.

I just realised that I’ll always… give it my everything.

I just realised that my sibling… loves me more than I sometimes care to admit.

I just realised that my mom… will always be my best friend, even when she annoys me.

I just realised that my cell phone… is used WAY too much.

I just realised that when I wake up in the morning… I warm and mix my gestone shots while I’m still half asleep.

I just realised that last night before I went to sleep… I put my hands over my tummy and thanked God for the miracle that might be growing there.

I just realised that right now I am thinking… that I really should have eaten more for breakfast (yes again!)

I just realised that my dad… is an adult and I am not meant to be his parent and that does not mean I love him any less.

I just realised that today… is the day when miracles are happening all over the world.

I just realised that tonight… is Cliff’s turn to cook :) ))

I just realised that tomorrow… needs to be lived tomorrow.

I just realised that I really want to… pee.

I just realised that life… is magical even during the hard times.

I just realised that my friends… understand more than I ever thought they could.

I just realised that this year… has only got 5 Mondays left in it… time FLIES!

I just realised that my exes… would never have supported me and loved me through lifes challenges like Cliff has.

I just realised that maybe I should.. remember to focus on my needs more, I give too much of myself to others and often don’t get it back in return.

I just realised that I love… Life and all it has for me.

I just realised that I don’t understand… many, many things – but that this is also ok, we’re not meant to understand everything.

I just realised that my past… has made me who I am, and I can be proud of myself.

I just realised that parties… make me happy – I love entertaining.

I just realised that I’m totally terrified… of nothing, I know I can handle the challenges life throws at me, even though while I’m in the thick of them it may not feel like I can.

I just realised that my life… ROCKS!

Honest Scrap…

Thanks Mel for this award, I’m thrilled to receive it :)

The rules for Honest Scrap are:

1) Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design.

2) Show the 7 winners names and links on your blog, and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with “Honest Scrap.” Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.

3) List at least 10 honest things about yourself.

Hmmm 10 honest things about myself, here goes:

1.     While growing up I was an army brat – my father was relatively high up in the food chain army wise and I made the most of that.  I can’t tell you how many times the bus driver had to drive right up to our house to collect us to get us to school cos we (my sister and I) were late/lazy to walk to the stop.

2.     I have an unhealthy obsession with savoury snacks – give me chips, nuts, crackers etc anyday over chocolate!

3.     My maths skills suck!  Ask me to write a letter, article anything but please don’t ask me to add or subtract etc in my head.  That is what calculators were invented for.  The time for doing maths in one’s head are WAY long gone… IMO of course ;)

4.     I HATE ironing with a passion.  When our domestic worker goes on her annual leave it really is the worst thing I have to do while she is away.  Ask me to scrub loo’s – anything else but ironing.

5.     I am really competitive.  When I’m involved in a competition of some sort I play to win.  Otherwise what’s the point?

6.     I’m really not a girly girl and I think I’ll be a better boy mom than a girl mom.  (That being said I will take whatever I can get at this stage.)  I don’t really do the whole shoe thing, handbag thing and lipstick thing.  I’m more rough and tumble and into sports.

7.     I *knew* on our second date that Cliff was the man I was going to marry.  I never really believed the whole “you just know the one when you meet them” stuff but it was true with him and I.  I just knew we were going to be together.  It took him a whole lot longer to get with the programe but all’s well that ends well.

8.     I am a true Gemini.  I have a nasty side that when provoked can be quite scary.  It does not come out often but when it does it is not pretty.

9.     My animals are incredibly spoilt.  They are not animals to me – they are an integral part of our family.  I allow them on the couch, on the bed and they really are two of the highlights of my day 98% of days. (When they dig in my garden they are not so much the highlights of the day – that equals the 2%)

10.     I kept my maiden name when I got married and double barreled it cos my family are so important to me.  Many ppl think it is a feminist thing and maybe a small part of it is.  But I really just thought that my family have helped shape who I am, why on earth did I have to give up my claim to them cos I was marrying into another family who shaped my husband?  I don’t ever regret doing this – even when ppl get all confused by it and ask me millions of questions or when I run out of space on forms etc..

Now for the business part of this award – 7 bloggers that I love… tough choice!  I love all the blogs I read and follow, but here we go:

Brenda, Sharon, Elize, Maritza, Chicklet, Murgdan and Dee

You girls consistently lay out “Honest scrap” for us to read, gain knowledge from and share.  You rock.

Rainbow Bright

Shaz got this from Amanda and I decided to do it too… This is what my rainbow says about me…

Your rainbow is intensely shaded green, pink, and indigo.

What is says about you: You are a grateful person. You feel strong ties to nature and your mood changes with its cycles. Those around you admire your fresh outlook and vitality. Friends count on you for being honest and insightful.

Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

I think it is pretty accurate except about the moodiness being linked to nature…

What does yours say?

Taking care of some business

Sorry I’ve been quiet, but we just had a bank holiday here in SA and I took full advantage of it by having myself a nice long weekend ;)   Still no closer to having completed the Christmas shopping but we hope to get that done sometime before Christmas… and yes internets I know I’m running out of time!  ONE WEEK TO CHRISTMAS!!!  I simply cannot believe it!  2008 had literally blasted away.

So back to taking care of the business at hand, while I was on a quiet diet, I was tagged by Babysmiling.

The rules are:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Share 7 random and/or weird facts about you.
3. Tag 7 random people at the end, and include links to their blogs.

Right so here we go:

1.   As a kid I used to hang my barbie dolls from a tree and pretend that they had been kidnapped and that the Ken doll had to save them.  I just LOVED the idea of Barbie being this damsel in distress being saved by her knight in shining armour. * dreamy sigh*  Sometimes though the situation would get out of hand and Ken would be too late to save his love and she would be cut down from the tree to fall to her death. (Macabre I know but I loved it)

2.  My absolute worst pet hate is when people call you and have the wrong number and JUST PUT THE PHONE DOWN.  It is NOT going to kill those ass wipes to say a simple “sorry wrong number”.  It really drives me dilly.

3.  In 12 years of schooling I went to 10 different schools.  And when one considers that from half way through Grade 8 (Std 6) to Grade 12 (Matric) I was in one school you can imagine how many times I moved schools while a lightie.  These included a stint at home schooling (not good, not good at all) as well as  a tiny German school where the only subject I passed was English – all the others were taught in German – go figure.

4.  While I worked in Egypt a few years back I came really close to being able to hold conversations with my staff in Arabic.  Tough language to learn.  But just as I was getting the hang of it my visa expired and I had to high tail it out of dodge.

5.  My Dad can wiggle his ears.  I have always wanted to be able to do that.  It would be such entertainment for our future kids (see positive thinking) but alas I did not inherit that wiggle the ear gene.  Strangely neither did my sister or half brother.  Maybe Dad is an alien?

6.  I’m pretty flexible.  Even now with the added padding I’m carrying around I am able to put my leg behind my head from a sitting position.  Great party trick.

7.  I’m also a pretty great burper.  I used to be able to burp “Supercalafragilisticexpialidosious”.  I don’t think I can do that today, but I do know that if you need someone on your side in a burping contest I’m your girl.

I suck at tagging people, so if you’re so inclined, please feel free to tag yourself!  But remember to link back to me so I can read all about your weirdness.  Come on people.  Don’t make me feel weird all on my own ;)

Then!

I was also given an award.

everyuterushasasilverlining

A pretty special one that was created by Murgdan and given to me by my friend Sharon.  Shaz, thanks for the award.  I know my positivity can be a bit annoying at times – but everyone needs a silver lined ute at some point  in their lives – I’ll always be on hand to flash that sparkly ute for ya.  Love ya too!!!  And consider yourself gifted with this award twice over.

I would like to hand this award over to some special gals too…

Bee Cee – for showing me that determination and grit gets a girl far.  You’re in my thoughts and prayers daily my friend.  I hope with all my heart that you get your deserved prize for all the guts and grit you’ve shown on your journey.

Tam- in the short time we’ve known each other I’ve really come to call you “friend”.  You’re an incredibly strong amazing chicken.  And I thought you should be reminded of that!

Aunt Becky – you make me laugh, and laugh and laugh.  You’re such a cool chick and one day when I’m big – I wanna be cool like you.

Brenda – you’ve been a special source of  steadiness for me in my down times.  Thank you for taking the time to make me feel better even when you’ve been feeling down yourself.

In fact to each and everyone of you who read this blog and keep me sane.  You are all my sparkly ute’s – so give yourselves a pat on the back and have a glass of wine on me.

So that concludes the business, “proper” post soon I promise!

1995

I saw this on my friend Jendeis‘s blog and I had to steal it from her – not just because I really liked it, but because my brain is in freeze mode (great ICLW timing, meh…)  I will write a proper post sometime soon – promise…

  • I have green eyes… as far as I know no-one else in my family has green eyes… Mom = hazel brown, Dad = blue and sister = blue… sometimes I think I am the milk man’s kid or that I was swapped at the hospital… but I know I can’t have been cos I look like my Mom and sister…
  • I HATE HATE HATE it when ppl hang up the phone when they’ve dialed a wrong number without saying “sorry wrong number”.  It drives me B.A.T.T.Y!  If I could I would climb down the phone line and throttle them – I just find it SO BLOODY RUDE…
  • I often give my cousins advise not to get married too young even though I got married relatively young (26) and LOVE married life (most of the time ;) ).  In this case what is good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander.
  • My hair colour is naturally mousy brown – I dislike it intently!  Due to this I have been bottle blonde, strawberry blonde, purple, red, brown and am currently very very dark bown almost black I guess… Of all the colours I have dyed my hair I think I look best with red or dark hair but general consensus is that I’m best blonde… hmmm might have to do a little test of that on here soon…
  • I used to bite my nails – BADLY.  I used to bite them so badly that my cuticles use to bleed (I know how GROSS).  Then I met a boy who was a hottie and he told me how much he liked my friends beautiful hands and nails.  Hey presto!  I stopped biting my nails.  *He* turned out to be gay.
  • I still think to this day (nearly 13 years on) that the dress I wore to my Matric Dance (prom) was one of the best most classic ones out of our whole group.  I think that the rest of them were trying too hard to be hip and fashionable and that when they look back at their photos later they might regret their choice of dress… I still like the dress I wore… classic black and timeless.
